Each shawl in this collection is the result of an intricate, often years-long process. Kani shawls are handwoven using coded wooden bobbins — one for every color, one for every line of the pattern. What begins as a digital sketch is meticulously translated by a master into a full-scale design, where each square millimeter is assigned a color. Two weavers sit side by side, reading the visual map like a musical score, weaving in perfect rhythm. No electricity. No shortcuts. Only silence and skill.
Sozni shawls tell a different story. Their beauty lies in precision — threads of natural-dyed silk or wool stitched directly into the weave. The process begins with hand-carved wooden blocks, cut by one of the last remaining Sozni pattern masters in Srinagar. Each block is unique and becomes part of the final piece. On bespoke commissions, the customer receives this block as part of their heirloom. Then comes the embroidery — counted by eye, mirrored by hand, often double-sided, always exact. It is not rare that a single Sozni shawl takes several years to complete.
What connects both techniques is the spirit behind them: a quiet resistance against haste, and a deep reverence for beauty that cannot be rushed. Every shawl is an individual — shaped by the hands that wove it, the air that surrounded it, and the patience that sustained it.
